Alibaba Plans to Release a Reading App for IOS

The Chinese web retail giant  announced yesterday that it plans to soon have an app on the iPhone, and it’s also looking at  producing its own eReaders.

Alibaba launched its eBookstore, Taohua.com, late last year. Taohua.com, a joint venture between Taobao.com  and Wasu Media. This site, which shares features with eBay and Amazon, offers a catalog of 60,000 digital titles. Only about 50,000 are eBooks, though. With 370 million registered users and 800 million products Taobao is the 15th most visited site in the world – 1 step above Amazon.

A beta version of the app can be downloaded from Weiphone.com, a third party app store for iOS. So far about 900 people have done so.
