After Second Life, Here Comes Small World

smallworlds.jpgSmallWorlds is definitely not Second Life, although their 3D environment, avatar creation and social networking aspects are practically the same. And besides, Second Life has been a cult phenomenon that it is inevitable not to mention when one is writing about a similar community. Second Life has become the benchmark for 3D virtual community and SmallWorlds is face with the gargantuan task of matching up the success of Second Life.

SmallWorlds is a 3D virtual community that runs inside your web browser. It enables you to build your own room, house, or even your own world, and fill it with a wide variety of items and fun activities.

Basically, what you need to do is to create your own profile and a small room where you can hang around. Then you can start sending invitation to your friends to try SmallWorlds. Some of them may accept your invitation to join while some may not. So, it’s up to you to convince them in joining you in your own little 3D space within the SmallWorlds virtual community.

SmallWorlds offer various tools that will help you in creating and building up your character. When you become a SmallWorld member, you’ll have access to various tools such as avatar builder, create your own roooms, play online, listen to music and dance to the beat, and a public message board which you can use to remind your friend that you’re looking for him/her.

Other than this, SmallWorlds is a pretty cool site, technically. The avatar characters were meticoluosly crafted and the 3D rendering is top-notch.

SmallWorlds is currently in beta mode. But you can try using but you might get a few bumps since it has not been officially released yet.

Registration is free. And you will be given with the SmallWorlds currency which you can use as you do your daily activities at SmallWorld.
