A&E Television Networks has inked a content development deal with Shmoop, a startup which publishes educational materials for teachers and students.
The new pact will result in Shmoop producing original editorial content for Bio.com, the Web offshoot of A&E’s Biography franchise and network. Shmoop’s content is typically produced by Ph.D. students from top universities such as Stanford, UC Berkeley and Harvard. It’s designed to make academic subjects more accessible by peppering them with pop culture references, humor and ties to current events.
The Shmoop-produced content for Bio.com will consist primarily of biographies of celebrities and other notable figures. The initial Shmoop/Bio subjects will be Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey, Food Network star Bobby Flay and the actress Joan Collins.
