It’s not quite as bad as the Baltimore Colts sneaking off in the middle of the night in 1984 to their new NFL home in Indianapolis. But surely a groan or two will be heard around Chesapeake Bay as news spreads that Duff Goldman, native son and star of Food Network reality show Ace of Cakes, is relocating to LA’s generally more flourless confines.
Goldman tells the Wall Street Journal‘s “Speakeasy” blog that he wants to be closer Las Vegas, where a lot of his wacky creations are delivered, including a recent one for Lenovo at CES that came complete with embedded Thinkpad and webcam. Also, what with his reality show wrapping up after ten seasons, it can’t hurt to be closer to partner Authentic Entertainment for future pitch meetings.
The Ace explains that he and his family have always wanted to open no more than one Charm City Cakes satellite location and that LA feels like the right place to do that. Current LA special order cake champs Sweet Lady Jane may not welcome the news of a Charm City invasion, but we say, “The more, the meringue-er!”
Slated to appear on this Thursday’s episode of Ace of Cakes is reunited band Pavement.
