ABC Taps Insider as Dep. Political Director

ABC this morning named David Chalian as the new deputy political director, replacing Lisa Todorovich, who left earlier this summer.

Chalian’s a veteran political unit staffer, co-author of “The Note”, and a regular contributor to the political unit’s podcast.”

Mr. Chalian joined ABC News in March 2003 as a field producer for the political unit based in New York. He covered the 2004 presidential election cycle from the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary to the national conventions, debates, and election night returns. He regularly contributed reporting for ABC News broadcasts and its digital properties, including abcnews.com and ABC News Now.

Throughout the 2004 election cycle, Mr. Chalian served as a frequent contributor to ABC News Now, the network’s 24-hour digital outlet. He also co-anchored “Battlegrounds” from the Republican National Convention, a weeklong series focused on the battleground states.

Prior to joining ABC News, Mr. Chalian produced “Inside City Hall,” a widely acclaimed nightly political program for NY1 News. There he covered the 2001 New York City mayoral campaign, the 2002 gubernatorial campaign in New York, and the tragic events of September 11th.

He is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he majored in political science and theater.
