A Sad D&#233nouement from Bill Keller

It means something to mean well, it really does — and Bill Keller really does mean well. Despite the bad decisions, the misplaced trust, the lack of transparency, the unwitting obfuscations, the lashing out at critics and the stubborn refusal to concede that maybe, just maybe, they might be right — despite a laundry list of complaints and concerns about the way the New York Times has handled the case of Judith Miller, now and in the months and even years that has led to this point, you (well, I) truly get the sense that Bill Keller meant well, and had the best interests of his staff and his paper at heart.
