Apple Has Released The iPad Air & a New Mini iPad

Apple revealed the iPad Air, "the lightest full-sized tablet in the world," at a press conference in California. The 9.7 inch tablet weighs one pound about half of the last model, and and is 20 percent thinner than previous models at 7.5mm. It has an A7 chip inside the same chip in the iPhone 5S. It is 72x faster than the first generation. The new device supports 1080p HD video and an 5MP iSight camera. A 16GB model costs $399 and ships in November. The new iPad Mini has a 7.9 inch screen with a 2048 by 1536 pixel display. The mini tablet also has an A7 chip, which makes it 4x faster than last year's model. The 16GB version costs $299 and ships later in November. At the event, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that as of today 64 percent of iOS device users were running iOS 7, Apple sold 170 million iPads earlier this month, said Cook as he unveiled the latest iPad. He also revealed that the iPad commands 81 percent of the market usage share for tablets, shaking off criticisms that Apple is losing its position. Cook also reported that there are now more than 1 million apps in the App Store, 475,000 of which are iPad apps. He also revealed that there have been 60 billion cumulative downloads. Developers have made more than $13 billion from these apps. Apple also used the press conference to demo a new version of OS X. Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering, demonstrated a new version of OS X which brings updates to apps. For instance, photos and videos from iBooks titles can jump out on the screen above the digital book page. Apple also updated its iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband apps to be more iOS 7 friendly. iPhoto has been redesigned and you can now create photo books on your iPhone or iPad. iMovie has a new feature for iMovie Theater that lets you organize your clips and put them into a simple page that will sync on iOS and on Apple TV through the cloud. Updates to Garageband includes a new redesign and now users can record 16 tracks, an upgrade from 8 tracks. Users can also purchase drum tracks through in-app purchases. Apple also revealed updates to Keynote, making transitions smoother and cleaner. The company also revealed iWork for iCloud (beta) a new feature that lets you share documents collaboratively like Google Docs. Users can access these files from a Mac or a PC. This new productivity suite is free, which will give Microsoft a run for its money. At the event, Apple also introduced a new MacBook Air and a new MacBook Pro, as well as a new desktop computer for recording and film editing studios. The Mac Pro is made in the USA.
