Bell City Scandal Coverage Earns LA Times a Pulitzer

Over the past few months, the spring 2010 LA Times series of articles on corruption among the ranks of Bell city administrators has continued to land prestigious awards. Today, it added the biggest of them all – a Pulitzer.

The series has earned the 2011 journalism prize for “Public Service.” Another LA Times staffer, photographer Barbara Davidson, was separately honored, following up her recent POYi citation with the Pulitzer for “Feature Photography” in recognition of her work in support of three-part gang violence report “Caught in the Crossfire.”

This year, one of the most notable aspects of the Pulitzer journalism honor roll is a category omission.
