Wife-for-sale ad brings disappointing return

The Brazilian government last week ordered an online auction site partially owned by eBay to remove an ad in which a man offered to sell his wife for $50. According to the AP, the ad (not the one shown here—this is a completely different please take my wife I beg of you ad) was posted by someone named “Breno.” His reason for selling? “I really need the money.” Even if this was just a tasteless joke, if the guy actually has a wife, he is in a load of trouble. If his finances are stretched now, wait until he finds out how costly the divorce is going to be. Or, if Mrs. Breno has a seller’s account of her own, perhaps she could turn the tables … and start the bidding around $5. “Buy it now” would probably be the best option.
