Texas Gun Ad Under Fire for Disparaging Arabs, Muslims, and Liberals

Crockett Keller takes heat for radio spot

A well-armed crackpot in Mason, Texas, named Crockett Keller is taking some heat for a radio ad promoting his concealed-handguns course with this exclusionary proviso: "If you are a non-Christian Arab or Muslim, I will not teach you the class." It's shocking, but true. People in Texas enjoy their guns! Crockett also takes a shot—figuratively, thank goodness—at President Obama and his supporters: "If you are a socialist liberal and/or voted for the current campaigner-in-chief, please do not take this class. You've already proven that you cannot make a knowledgeable and prudent decision as required under the law." If the dude's worried about a deluge of "socialist liberals" in the Lone Star State, that just proves he's not shootin' with a full clip. Muslims have understandably taken offense, and officials could pull Crockett's certification if they determine that he broke any laws. That would be a shame, as I think we can all agree there's no better way to keep the peace than by teaching folks how to properly conceal weapons. The ad's a bull's-eye as a publicity ploy, generating coverage in The New York Times, HuffPo, and elsewhere. Even so, the spot lured only six paying students to the class, so its ROI is more of a whimper than a bang.
