So, General Motors finally agreed to change its “suicidal robot” ad so that the morose bucket of bolts doesn’t dive off a bridge. Probably a good PR move, though frankly, this particular automaton was more palatable than some of its brethren. Consider the general disposition of mass media’s other famous mechanical men:
   Robby the Robot, from Forbidden Planet: Killed humans.
   Robot from Lost in Space: Initially preferred to kill humans. Softened stance after prolonged exposure to Judy and Penny Robinson.
