We’re a bit late to this story, but we’ve been watching more baseball than sailing recently. A couple of weeks ago, the Manhattan Yacht Club sponsored the first ever Advertising Agency Regatta in New York Harbor. Nine teams were provided with identical J/24 boats, and after what we imagine was a grueling, tension-filled race, Ogilvy & Mather basked in the glory of first place. The other teams, in the order they finished, were: BBDO, Argonaut Media, Trainor Associates, SiboneyUSA/Interpublic Group, Draft FCB Group, Chowder Inc., ReflexAdvertising and Avenue A/Razorfish. Manhattan Yacht Club tradition apparently requires each team to bring humorous gifts for the team that finishes behind them. Ogilvy gave BBDO a “treasure trove of booty,” including a copy of Ogilvy on Advertising. Avenue A/Razorfish gave Ogilvy a bottle of rum.
