According to the Chicago Tribune, more than 7 percent of us will be dressing up our pets in costumes for Halloween. In other news, more than 7 percent of us should be prevented from reproducing. No one who drops $20 on a witch costume for his or her dog should be allowed to have kids. That may sound extreme, but what other response is there to news that “humanizing accessories,” aka pet clothes, “are the fastest-growing category in the $41 billion U.S. pet market,” and that Wal-Mart’s pet-clothing sales are rising steadily? Some polls put the number at 11 percent! If we can’t make the pursuit of overbearing schmaltz illegal, we should at least prevent those tendencies from passing down to future generations.
