OK, a show of hands, please. Who was unnerved by the cover of this week’s New Yorker? We thought so. Pretty creepy, eh?

Just as we were feeling all smug and cozy about having completed all of our holiday shopping before Thanksgiving, The New Yorker arrives in our mailbox, its cover depicting Osama bin Laden disguised as a sidewalk Santa amid oblivious shoppers. The illustration, titled “In the Shadows,” is the work of Carter Goodrich, whose work was also featured in the print component of last winter’s animated United Airlines campaign.
