Dropped calls can ruin a timely retirement

This Cingular commercial, in which Roger Clemens can’t hear (due to a dropped call) his wife’s frantic exhortations for him to retire, broke in August, before the pitcher’s late-season injury meltdown. But it continues to air, and viewers now will tend to agree with Debbie Clemens, and hope the Rocket does have a decent cell-phone plan so her message can get through. Clemens is officially on the fence about coming back for another year, and he tells the Houston Chronicle that the Cingular ad is pretty much true to life. “That’s kind of us,” he says. “I’ve seen that look before. I’ve seen that look a number of times.” Hopefully not too many more times.
