Memo to Rolaids: If you haven’t already done so, get busy cranking out an ad to salute relief pitcher Bruce Sutter, whose election to baseball’s Hall of Fame was announced this week. Sutter was a four-time winner of the Rolaids Relief Man award, given annually to the best reliever in each league. Passed over for Cooperstown enshrinement in his first dozen years on the Hall’s ballot, Sutter dates back to baseball’s pre-pharmacological era. That ought to make him an especially valuable connection for a brand whose name has the misfortune of nearly rhyming with “steroids.”
