April Fool’s Day joke or marketing trick? Whoever is behind this obnoxious, rudimentary billboard won’t say. The message, “Trade Barry,” done up in the orange-and-black colors of the San Francisco Giants, popped up on Saturday, April 1, on Third Street right near AT&T Park, where the Giants play. Giants fans, as usual, suspect the most obvious enemy: Los Angeles Dodger fans. And reaction locally is divided. Many San Franciscans defend Barry Bonds and his alleged steroid use out of defensiveness and pure regional pride.
