Billions of search terms can’t be wrong

Google_2The new Google Zeitgeist 2005 is out, in which the Internet company delivers its state of the universe address based on what people typed into its search box throughout the year. Even though Nipplegate seems like a lifetime ago now, Janet Jackson tops the list of Google News searches, beating out Hurricane Katrina and the Asian tsunami. (If that’s not pathetic, what is?) The iPod was tops among Froogle searches. The Google Zeitgeist 2004 was more extensive, including things like the most popular brand names. They’ve opted for a more “selective view” this year, for whatever reason. But you can compare the relative interest under the subject headings of world affairs, nature, movies, celebrities and “phenomena.”
