It doesn’t have the hard-hitting monosyllabic ring of the term “spam” but we kind of like the word “typosquatting” which has been popping up (no Internet advertising pun intended) with increasing frequency these days. If you’ve never heard the word, it refers to the act of buying the domains to mistyped versions of popular domains, and trying to entice those who mistype to use the sites they’ve landed on once they are there. Being a professional typosquatter seems like a rather dubious way to make a living—don’t most of us realize our mistake and simply move on?— but no matter. We just like the word.
