Australian army seeking ‘Simpsons’ fans

Simpsons The U.S. Army said recently that it was targeting paintball players as potential recruits. Down in Australia, they’re taking a slightly different path, with a new army campaign that “will target fans of The Simpsons and South Park, as well as Internet chatrooms, as part of a drive to recruit young people.” It might be good, while this campaign is airing, to temporarily shelve the Simpsons episode where the U.S. military tries to recruit Bart’s class of 10-year-olds, and also maybe to discourage airings of the South Park movie, in which the U.S. declares war on Canada because of two offensive comedians, and Canada responds by bombing the Baldwins. Other campaign components include a CD-ROM that contains war games (which sound similar to those in the Simpsons episode) and, slightly less compelling, some bus-shelter ads that offer downloadable podcasts of officers talking about their jobs.
