The news that serial bow-tie wearer Tucker Carlson is leaving CNN and that Crossfire is going the way of Connie Chung’s ill-fated CNN prime-time slot caught my eye this morning. But when I stopped to read the stories about it in detail, I actually got whiplash. Why? Because Jonathan Klein, the newly appointed head of CNN, actually admits to several media outlets that Jon Stewart’s on-air criticism of the show during the presidential race had something to do with his decision.
In The New York Times, Bill Carter reports, “Mr. Klein specifically cited the criticism that the comedian Jon Stewart leveled at Crossfire when he was a guest on the program.” And Klein tells the Associated Press, “I guess I come down more firmly in the Jon Stewart camp.”
Of course, there are many people who would have made the link without Klein making it for them, but good for you, CNN. Good to see you in the No Spin Zone.
