Zimmerman Partners Takes Amazing Savings

NEW YORK Amazing Savings yesterday awarded its $10 million advertising account to Omnicom’s Zimmerman Partners, following the closeout retailer’s acquisition of Odd Job locations in the Northeast.

The South Plainfield, N.J.-based client selected Zimmerman Partners following a review that included sister shop Integer Group and two other undisclosed New York agencies.

“All the agencies did a nice job presenting themselves,” said Moshael Straus, CEO of Amazing Savings. “No one was lacking anything. We just felt that Zimmerman presented the most amount of creativity in their pitch.”

While the details of the campaign are undetermined, Straus said the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based shop will be charged with creating a brand identity that aims to capture the thrill of bargain hunting. Unlike Odd Job, which was known for cut-rate prices and an eclectic selection, Amazing Savings will seek to reposition itself as thrifty alternative to Wal-Mart and other value stores.

“We retained Zimmerman to help with the merge. It’s more evolutionary than revolutionary,” Straus said.

By August, more than 70 Odd Job locations will be rebranded under the Amazing Savings banner. Amazing Savings now has 14 locations across the Northeast.

Prior to hiring Zimmerman, the company handled advertising in-house and on a project basis with outside agencies.
