Zimmerman Eyes Florida Shops

Zimmerman & Partners Advertising is negotiating to acquire The Ad Team and Ad Productions, two Florida agencies that specialize in automotive and retail advertising, ac-cording to sources.
The acquisition of the two shops will bring an estimated $100 million in new billings and $15 million in revenues to Zimmerman, which is based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and has nine U.S. affiliates in six states.
Agency president and chief executive officer Jordan B. Zimmerman could not be reached for comment, but sources at both The Ad Team and Ad Productions confirmed that a deal is imminent. Top executives at both agencies did not return calls by press time.
Since being acquired by New York holding company Omnicom in April 1999, Zimmerman has surged from a roughly $150 million agency to more than $400 million in annual billings, largely due its being named agency for all U.S. regional Nissan dealerships.
The Ad Team in North Miami is split roughly 50-50 between car and non-automotive clients, including Mars Music, Lenar Homes, Bond Jewelers, the NFL Miami Dolphins and the NHL Florida Panthers.
Miami-based Ad Productions, devoted exclusively to automotive accounts, primarily oversees retail newspaper advertising.
One source said Zimmerman plans to move both agencies to its Fort Lauderdale headquarters.
Representatives for Omnicom had no comment.
