Ziff Davis Restructures Internet Business Unit

A representative for Ziff Davis on Thursday confirmed that Ziff Davis Internet would cease operations as an independent business unit and the Web properties would be integrated back into print counterparts at Ziff Davis Media. The rep characterized the changes as “integrating the online business into the overall business of the company, to get the best continuity for the brands.”

As part of the corporate realignment, Wenda Harris Millard will step down from her post as president and CIO of Ziff Davis Internet. Millard will remain with the company during the transition period, which is expected to take about a month.

Millard joined Ziff Davis Internet earlier this year from DoubleClick, an interactive advertising company she co-founded. In addition to co-founding DoubleClick, Millard was a former publisher at Adweek magazine.

Like so many publishing companies, Ziff Davis Media has been pummeled by the advertising downturn and has in recent months undergone massive restructuring. Last month, James Dunning was ousted as the company’s CEO, with Avy Stein stepping in as interim chief. Stein is a principal in the Chicago-based Willis Stein investment company that had backed Dunning in the $780 million buyout of Ziff Davis Media.

The Ziff Davis rep said that five positions were eliminated as a result of the realignment, but added that all the Web properties slated for launch are still on track, including next month’s scheduled relaunch of InteractiveWeek.com. In June, Ziff Davis Internet launched ExtremeTech.com, a news site aimed at IT professionals.
