Y&R Names Global CEO

NEW YORK WPP Group has ended an 18-month search for a new worldwide CEO at Young & Rubicam by promoting Hamish McLennan, chief executive of Young & Rubicam Brands in Australia and New Zealand.

McLennan, 40, succeeds Ann Fudge, 55, who remains worldwide chair and CEO of Y&R Brands, the larger group of agencies that includes Wunderman, Landor Associates and Burson-Marsteller.

McLennan joined Y&R in 2002, from George Patterson Bates in Melbourne, Australia, where he was national managing director. As head of Y&R Brands in New Zealand and Australia, he was based in Sydney, Australia, and oversaw more than a dozen agencies. Earlier in his career, McLennan held top posts at Bates’ offices in Hong Kong and Sydney.

“Y&R is an icon in the world of advertising,” said McLennan, in a statement. “It’s a great privilege to be part of the Y&R global team and I look forward to working with our people and our clients to lead our businesses into the future.”

Said Fudge: “Hamish has been a rising star at the agency. He has an outstanding track record in the business.”

McLennan will relocate to New York to take the reins of Y&R.
