Young & Rubicam has filled its chief creative officer slot in Chicago with Bob Winter, one of several executive creative directors at Leo Burnett.
Winter, 44, succeeds Ken Erke, who is leaving to become an ecd at Interpublic Group’s R/GA in Chicago. Erke had held the post since May 2008, when Mark Figliulo exited to become chairman and chief creative officer at Omnicom’s TBWA\Chiat\Day in New York.
Y&R’s top client in Chicago is Sears, which last year spent $410 million in major measured media, according to Nielsen. This year’s total through August exceeded $260 million. Those figures don’t include online spending. Other office clients include Hotels.com and Giant Eagle.
At Burnett, Winter worked on Altoids, Kellogg’s, Caesars Palace and Greenpeace. He spent three years at the Publicis Groupe shop.
Before Burnett, Winter was a creative director at Omnicom Group’s Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, where his clients included Ace Hardware, Budweiser and Netflix. Earlier in his career, Winter spent 13 years at the Chicago office of Omnicom’s DDB, where he became known for his contributions to Budweiser’s long-running “Real Men of Genius” campaign.
Y&R global chief creative officer Tony Granger described Winter as “passionate about the work” and “fantastic with clients,” adding, “He’s exactly the type of person we want leading one of our top offices.”
