Y&R Hires Steadman

Tom Steadman has joined Young & Rubicam in Irvine, Calif., as svp, brand team leader on the $50 million Land Rover North America account.

Steadman, 38, previously was an account director on the business at GSD&M in Austin, Texas. Land Rover North America was awarded to Y&R in early July [Adweek, July 15].

In his newly created position, Steadman will manage the Y&R Cos.’ integrated services for Land Rover’s national and dealer accounts. He reports to David Murphy, president and CEO of the Y&R Cos.

Steadman said his move came at Land Rover’s behest. “Land Rover asked if I would be interested in helping manage their business into the next level,” he noted. Steadman said that because Y&R also handles the client’s global and interactive business, he is now in a position to ensure “greater continuity” across the accounts.

Murphy said that during the review, he asked Land Rover to identify a few GSD&M employees who “truly know this brand inside and out.” Of Steadman, Murphy said, “We were very impressed with his presence and his poise. He brings not just Land Rover experience, but many years of experience with luxury-car brands.”

Steadman has worked on automotive brands for 15 years. He has client-side experience at Mercedes-Benz and has worked at the former Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG on Volvo and at Bozell on Chrysler.

This is Y&R’s second senior-level hire for the Land Rover account. Group creative director John Hage also joined the shop this month from Publicis & Hal Riney, where he was cd and copywriter [Adweek, July 29].
