Yahoo Unveils Premium Content Service

NEW YORK As part of its effort to garner revenue from sources beyond online advertising, Yahoo today launched a premium online audio and video service.

The new subscription service, Yahoo Platinum (platinum.yahoo.com), offers exclusive entertainment, news and sports content, such as outtakes from Fox’s American Idol, stories from ABC News and CBS sports coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

Plans call for Yahoo to roll out programming from CNBC Dow Jones, Business Video and National Geographic, among other outlets in the coming weeks.

The Sunnyvale, Calif., company plans to charge $9.95 per month for Yahoo Platinum, and $16.95 per month for Yahoo Platinum SportsPak, which includes all 56 games from the first and second rounds and regional semifinals of the 2003 NCAA basketball tournament as well as in-depth Nascar coverage.
