Yahoo Hires Search Vet Belanger

NEW YORK Yahoo beefed up its search agency capabilities with the hiring of former Carat Interactive executive Ron Belanger.

Belanger, 35, has joined Yahoo as a senior director of global advertiser strategy and development. In the newly created position, Belanger will work both directly with clients and with agencies to develop performance-based campaigns.

“As advertisers begin to ask the larger questions around ideal media mixes and brand impact, Yahoo is uniquely poised to provide comprehensive solutions and I want to be part of that,” Belanger said in an e-mail message.

Belanger will report to Chris Bolte, vice president of strategic alliances in Yahoo’s search division. He will remain based in Boston.

Last month, Belanger left Aegis Group’s Carat Interactive as vice president of search and affiliate marketing to become vice president of marketing at BuyDomains.com, a Boston-based firm that has 500,000 Internet sites that it uses to display keyword-priced advertisements. BuyDomains.com also resells domains for a premium.

Belanger said the Yahoo job was “an unexpected opportunity I could not pass up.”
