Wunderman New York announced today that it has a new chief creative officer. Sami Thessman will take on the role, joining the agency from Havas Worldwide where he served as executive creative director.
In his new role, Thessman will be expected to fuse his past creative experience—which includes over 17 years working with brands like Adidas, Apple and MasterCard—with technology and data, both key issues for the digital-focused agency.
"Sami is a proven leader able to combine technology, data and storytelling in order to help brands build innovative campaigns, with particular expertise in the technology and financial sectors," Jamie Gallo, president of Wunderman New York, said in a statement.
Gallo said the agency will rely on Thessman's "entrepreneurial mindset and technology expertise" to help its clients push boundaries and help build out Wunderman's client roster.
Over the years, Thessman has worked at agencies including TBWA Hong Kong and TBWA Helsinki, winning a bronze Lion at Cannes and a bronze Effie for his work.

The new CCO stated that he's looking forward to working at an agency that partners creatives across the world with data scientists to "help brands listen to, and engage, their audiences across all social, mobile and digital platforms."
Thessman will work on some big-name clients, including Coca-Cola and Xbox, in the new position.
Wunderman's latest hire comes on the heels of another major hire late last year when the network of 7,000 tapped Jamie Gutfreund as its new chief marketing officer.
