Wolf Group Poised to Add Scotts Business

NEW YORK–Wolf Group in New York is expected to land creative and media duties on two Scotts Co. brands: Ortho and Miracle-Gro branded plants, sources said. Billings are estimated at $15 million.

Young & Rubicam and sister shop The Media Edge, both in New York, previously handled those brands. Y&R resigned the business late last month, due to declines in client spending, an agency representative said.

A client rep acknowledged the split with Y&R and said Wolf Group–a Scotts roster shop–would add duties on Miracle-Gro. Scotts is still mulling who will get the Ortho brand but Wolf Group is “likely” to get it, the rep added. Wolf Group declined comment.

Scotts Co. spent about $15 million in measured media on Ortho in 2000 and about $7 million in the first six months of 2001, according to CMR. Spending on Miracle-Gro branded plants brand could not be determined.

The Toronto offices of Y&R and TME retain their respective duties on Ortho and Miracle-Gro in Canada, the Y&R rep said. Billings on that business were not available.
