Williams Leaves R&R, Restarts Ignition Consulting

LOS ANGELES R&R Partners chief marketing officer Tim Williams said he has left the shop to return to consulting.

Williams, 50, had worked for R&R in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas for the last four years. Prior to that, he had a consulting firm, Ignition Consulting Group, from 1998 to 2000. It was there that he first began working with R&R, before joining the agency in a full-time position. His last day at R&R was April 15.

Williams’ consulting practice is once again called Ignition Consulting Group. In addition to Williams, the two-person operation includes his daughter, Emily Hicks, who previously worked at R&R and Ignition and is serving as business manager.

Ignition, which is based in Salt Lake City, will work with ad agencies and other marketing communications firms. “My focus is agency management consulting,” said Williams, who described consulting as his “first love.” Williams added that he will not work with corporations or serve as an agency search consultant.

According to Williams, he will continue to work with R&R in a consulting role. He has not yet lined up other clients.

Williams will not be replaced at the Las Vegas-based agency; instead, his responsibilities will be divided among the shop’s partners.

“We’ve benefited greatly from Tim’s work both as a consultant and as a part of R&R, and we’re looking forward to a continued relationship as Tim returns to the work he loves best,” said R&R partner Mary Ann Mele, in a statement.

Prior to his first stint at Ignition, Williams was a partner at Williams & Rockwood (now Richter 7) in Salt Lake City. He spent his early career in New York and Houston, working at shops including Ogilvy & Mather and Marsteller, on brands like Compaq, CBS, American Express and IBM.
