Wieden Parts With CD on Nike

LOS ANGELES Michael Folino, the lead creative director on Nike at independent Wieden + Kennedy, said he parted with the agency on Friday, the same day sources said the client informed Wieden it would look beyond the shop for ideas on its running shoe business.

Folino declined to discuss details of his departure.

A representative at Wieden’s Portland, Ore., headquarters would not discuss possible replacements for Folino.

Nike’s decision to to look beyond Wieden was first reported on Tuesday by Adweek.com.

Folino joined the agency in July 2006 from Omnicom Group’s DDB in Chicago.

Prior to DDB, he had been the chief creative officer at Interpublic Group’s Dailey & Associates in West Hollywood, Calif.

Sources said Folino and Wieden’s new management team were not getting along. Last September, managing director Tom Blessington took over Portland managerial duties from global COO Dave Luhr; by year’s end, Jelly Helm and Steve Luker began supervising the creative department. A few weeks later, global Nike account director Rebecca Van Dyck departed for a post at Apple.
