“Suits are like client relationships: You understand what works for you, what fits you, then stick with it. Ties and shirts are like creative ideas: You experiment around a theme, trying different things. Every once in a while you put together the combination that generates the big response and has the other guys in the office taking notes. You remember that; you try to learn from it. But it doesn’t stop you from trying new combinations. My wardrobe consists primarily of suits, mostly three-button and loose-fitting. I love shirts. Periodically, I’ll scour the shelves at discount stores like Syms looking for unique colors. I’m always on the lookout for ‘the tie.’ Casually, I still like a jacket, but pair it with collarless shirts. I don’t do jeans in an office setting, but, as an avid golfer, I have plenty of Dockers and golf shirts to which the right jacket can be applied.”
