A kennel full of Petz Catz and Dogz-themed toys will appear at Wendy’s locations beginning March 23. The No. 3 burger chain is partnering with videogame maker Ubisoft, for the first time, to offer five branded toys.
Petz, based on Petz.com’s virtual animals, are the No. 1 pet-themed games on Nintendo DS. Players can adopt different breeds of animals and care for them. The franchise predated the wildly popular Tamagotchi.
For five weeks, Kids Meals purchasers will receive the Petz Catz PC game, Petz Dogz PC game, a Catz balancer ball, Dogz plush toy or Petz-themed card game. A discount coupon for Petz Sports for Wii and Petz Dogz Pack for Nintendo DS also comes with the purchase.
The promotion will be supported via in-store signage, at Wendys.com as well as through a microsite that offers three new co-branded games. This marks the first time Wendy’s has partnered with a videogame publisher to create a customized online game.
“Wendy’s is delighted to partner with Ubisoft to offer its guests and engaging and interactive Kids Meal promotion,” said Ana Hernandez, director of diversity marketing at Wendy’s.
Wendy’s spent $296 million on media last year, excluding online, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
