VH1 Expands Horizons

VH1 will unveil an ambitious slate of original programming today at its upfront presentation to advertisers in New York.

Projects in the works include a battle-of-the-cover bands series hosted by Paul Shaffer, a reality series from Imagine TV and the channel’s first scripted comedy and drama series. The first scripted project set to premiere in the summer is “Strange Frequency,” a spooky hourlong anthology series offering stories that are rooted in rock ‘n’ roll mythology. VH1 tested the waters for the show with a two-hour “Strange Frequency” movie that bowed Jan. 24.

Another drama pilot in the works is “Pulling the Strings,” executive produced by Barbra Streisand and James Brolin. Brolin will star as the patriarch of a music and entertainment company that has recently been taken over by a huge corporation.
