Verizon Wireless Enlists Pile to Guide Review

NEW YORK Verizon Wireless has hired consulting company Pile and Co. to manage the review for the creative portion of its estimated $300 million-plus ad account, the client has confirmed. Pile and several other undisclosed consultants competed for the assignment, sources said.

Interpublic Group’s Lowe in New York had handled the Bedminster, N.J., client’s business and had been receiving help on it from sibling agency McCann-Erickson, also in New York.

But two weeks ago, the client decided to open the account up to review [Adweek Online, Jan. 16]. Lowe will not defend, and McCann has been appointed to run the account while the review is in progress. McCann will participate in the review, the agency said last week.

Boston-based Pile and Co. is helmed by chairman Skip Pile and chief executive Rick Hooker.
