Van Ooyen to Join BBDO on Visa Business

NEW YORK Cheryl Van Ooyen, a senior group creative director at Deutsch, has left that agency to join BBDO in the new position of senior vice president and senior creative director on its Visa account, effective July 7, the agency said.

In a statement, Ted Sann, BBDO’s chairman and chief creative officer for the Omnicom agency’s New York and North American operations, said, “This is a great addition to BBDO and the Visa business. Cheryl is an enormous talent who will bring fresh creative thinking to the work of one of the industry’s most prolific advertisers.” A copywriter, she will report to BBDO’s senior executive creative director Jimmy Siegel. BBDO has handled the Visa account since April 1985. The campaign’s long-running tagline is “It’s everywhere you want to be.”

Before joining Interpublic Group’s Deutsch in New York in the mid-1990s, Van Ooyen, 38, was with crosstown shop Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners. She has also worked for the Seattle agencies WongDoody and Elgin Syferd DDB.

At Deutsch, Van Ooyen was a key creative leader on campaigns for such clients as Snapple and former clients Verizon, Domino’s Pizza and Ikea.

The San Francisco-based client spent $280 million in media in 2002, per TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.
