Like its new global marketing chief, Unilever’s new worldwide head of laundry care comes from within the company.
Randy Quinn, a Unilever veteran who has worked in multiple regions, has been named executive vice president of laundry care, a company representative confirmed. Previously, he was svp of marketing operations for the Americas at Unilever’s office in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.
In his new role, Quinn assumes a chunk of the duties previously held by Keith Weed, who Unilever two weeks ago named chief marketing and communications officer.
Weed, who previously was evp of home care, oral care and water brands, succeeds exiting CMO Simon Clift and starts next month.
Some of Weed’s previous oversight responsibilities have been absorbed by Vindi Banga, president of foods, home and personal care. Unilever’s svp’s for home care and oral care will now report to Banga rather than Weed, as they did in the past, the rep said. Unilever is still determining how to manage its water brands business.
Quinn’s previous roles included svp of fabric conditioning and household cleaners, a global post; svp of brand development for home and personal care in North America; and general manager of the company’s global skin-care business.
Unilever, whose global revenue totaled about $57 billion last year, is among the biggest advertising spenders worldwide. In the U.S alone in ’09, the company spent nearly $715 million in major measured media, up from $635 million in 2008, according to Nielsen. Those figures don’t include online spending.
Unilever’s global roster of agencies includes WPP Group units JWT, Ogilvy & Mather and Mindshare; Omnicom Group units DDB and PHD; Interpublic Group units Lowe, McCann Erickson and Initiative; and Publicis Groupe-backed Bartle Bogle Hegarty.
