TIGHT SQUEEZE

The pressure is on: Adver tising Women of New York has sent out a call for entries for its fifth annual The Good, Bad and Ugly Awards, which critiques the portrayal of women in advertising.

The idea for this year’s call for entries came from the name of the venue where the ceremony will be held: Pressure, a club above Bowlmor Lanes on University Place in New York.

Created by LMP/NYC in New York, the entry form is a simple postcard showing the event title and a vise squeezing the “b” in “bad.” “Vise or virtue?” reads the copy.

It’s a far cry from last year’s entry, a poster that featured pseudo tips on marketing to women and folded out into a life-size pinup of a voluptuous “silhouette girl.” The poster was deemed inappropriate by some, but the controversy had no bearing on this year’s entry form.

“We started from scratch—we wanted to keep it simple,” said Joanna Patton, partner at LMP/NYC and co-chair of the event, noting that the current entry form’s size makes for much lower postage.

Deadline for entries is Aug. 1; the event is scheduled for Sept. 25.
