Tierney Signs as ‘Tango’ Sales Partner

DALLAS Tango, a new relationship-focused magazine set to launch in February, said it has hired Tierney and Company to handle advertising sales in the Southwest.

Jennifer Hedges, a representative at Tierney, will serve as Southwest advertising director, a magazine spokesman said.

Tierney, founded in 1990, specializes in sales and marketing for women’s lifestyle and consumer magazines. The Dallas-based firm has repped other periodicals, such as Hearst Corp.’s Seventeen and Time Inc.’s Parenting. The firm’s expertise in fashion, beauty and consumer products is a match for Tango, which will reach an affluent 25-44 female audience, the publisher said. Hedges has worked with clients such as Neiman Marcus, MasterCard, Dell and Microsoft.

“Tierney and Company’s fashion and consumer know-how, and its extensive experience with advertisers, will allow us to establish a prominent place in the Southwest market,” said Tango publisher Ellen Abramowitz.

Tango‘s premiere issue will reach newsstands Feb. 1, the publisher said. With a rate base of 100,000, the magazine has said it plans to publish four issues in 2005.

Targeted at well-educated, sophisticated women, Tango will explore the complexities of modern relationships, the publishing company said. Dating and relationship topics—from marrying older to online matchmaking—will also be covered.

“Think Sex and the City in print, but with a dose of gravitas,” said founder and CEO Andrea Miller.
