There’s a Toys “R” Us Guide for Special Needs Kids

Toys “R” Us is targeting parents of special needs children with a new toy guide featuring Whoopi Goldberg. The annual Toys “R” Us Toy Guide for Differently-Abled Kids is available nationwide and online.
It offers toy recommendations that match a child’s specific skill sets. For example, to help with gross motor skills it recommends the Fold-2-Go Trike from Radio Flyer. For fine motor skills it touts the My First Duplo Set from Lego. This year, the guide features safety tips for parents and caregivers of children with cognitive, emotional or social limitations.

National Lekotek Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making the world accessible to children of all abilities, partnered with Toys “R” Us to create the guide.
The online guide ( has been enhanced this year. Shoppers can search by skill, price and age range. It also offers commentary from families of children who served as models for the guide.

Whoopi Goldberg said, in a statement, “With the help of the guide, caregivers can find appropriate toys for a child’s individual abilities, providing an equal opportunity for all children to enjoy playtime.”
