Temerlin Adds Huang

Temerlin McClain has appointed Christine Huang director of business development.

Huang joins the Irving, Texas, agency directly from Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey, Calif., where she was instrumentalin establishing its new-business de-partment as associate director of business development.

Huang has also worked in the New York offices of both Deutsch and Merkley Newman Harty & Partners.

Temerlin hired Huang to establish a new-business discipline at the same time the agency is stressing a “renewed focus on creativity,” according to chief operating officer Mark Denesuk.

Huang plans to pitch Temerlin’s new direction to potential clients.

“I want to communicate that what you will get with Temerlin is a shop that has done great work with clients,” Huang said. “Not that creative was lacking, but let’s get some creative out there that gets talked about.”

Business development at the IPG agency had previously been handled on an ad-hoc basis, Huang said. That method has traditionally suited the shop, which positioned itself as a superior account-service operation for a smaller number of “staple” clients such as American Airlines of Fort Worth, Texas, and Cherry Hill, N.J.-based Subaru of America.

The shop’s billings and revenue slid 26 percent to $589 million and $70 million, respectively, last year.

Temerlin’s renewed commitment to creative formally began with the February hire of former TBWA\Chiat\Day executive creative director Eric McClellan.
