NEW YORK Former Fallon ecd Al Kelly has landed at Omnicom’s TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., where he will serve as as co-ecd with newly promoted Patrick O’Neill. Both report to shop veteran Rob Schwartz, who today was named CCO of the office, a promotion from ecd.
Kelly exited Publicis Groupe’s Fallon in Minneapolis two weeks ago as the shop disclosed the hiring of Darren Spiller as chief creative officer from Publicis Mojo in Australia.
At TBWA\C\D, Kelly will work primarily on Pepsi, a showpiece account the shop added amid much fanfare late last year.
O’Neill moves up from group cd at the shop and will continue to oversee its domestic efforts on Visa and Sara Lee.
According to Schwartz: “The appointment of Al Kelly and promotion of Patrick as co-ecds puts in place the talent needed to grow and better serve our clients.”
Of his own new job, he told Adweek: “I’ll be focusing on our largest clients and building and delivering our disruption and media arts practices. In addition, I’ll continue to lead pitches and recruit the best talent in the business.”
Schwartz helped craft the shop’s initial high-profile work for Pepsi tagged “Refresh Everything,” and he has also guided efforts for Nissan and Visa. He oversees 75 creative staffers.
Lee Clow, CCO of the agency’s global operations, said in a statement: “Rob has grown into an incredible leader. Our clients count on him to really understand their business and create the kind of work that we can all be proud of.” Of the new hires, he added: “Al and Patrick will be great additions to the leadership.”
In addition, the shop has added to its digital team: cd Jason Nichols from RGA; acds Mike Kohlbecker from Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Alexandra Sann from Deutsch; and art director Dustin Artz from Team One.
“Each new person we are bringing in can tell brand stories in all forms of media,” said Schwartz.
