New Business Chief Looks to Raise Client Profile
LOS ANGELES–Colby Effler & Partners has recruited TBWA Chiat/Day’s Kim Haskell to head up the shop’s new business efforts and seek higher-profile clients.
Haskell, currently director of business development for TBWA Chiat/Day in North America and a founding partner of The Persuasion Group retail spinoff, is joining the Santa Monica, Calif.-based shop as executive vice president sometime this week.
As director of business development for the last five years at TBWA C/D in Venice, Calif., Haskell is considered a rising star. He played a key role in landing more than $400 million in new business last year and was part of a team that landed the Levi Strauss & Co. jeans account this year.
“We are thrilled to be working with Kim,” said Rick Colby, president and executive creative director. Haskell will also assume a senior account management role. Chairman Don Effler will focus on his duties as vice chairman of parent Dentsu USA.
Haskell wants to build the agency’s client base and improve its creative and account planning capabilities. He also indicated the move gives him more of a chance to run his own show: “It’s a great opportunity for me to get in on the ground floor of a year-old agency,” he said, referring to the shop’s recent name change. Sources said he will also get equity in the agency.
The shop could use a period of growth and stability. The former Lord, Dentsu & Partners has had a variety of name, management and ownership changes in recent years. While Colby’s arrival in 1997 stabilized the shop, it had lost an estimated $80 million in billings in the prior year. Its estimated $30 million in billings comes from Suzuki Motorcycles, California Avocado Commission, California Pizza Kitchen and the Beverly Center retail mall.
