Target Marketing & Promotions, the Jimmy Fund and Burger King recently teamed up on “A Chance for Kids.” The six-week promotion in 300 New England Burger King restaurants raised $300,000 for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

“We met with the Jimmy Fund about 10 months ago. They called us back and said they wanted us to pitch this Burger King opportunity and we did and we won the business,” said Rich Doucette, executive vice president at Boston-based Target Marketing. The project was pro bono, except for out of pocket expenses.

Customers who gave $1 to the Jimmy Fund at any participating Burger King received a prize-winning scratch card. Prizes ranged from Burger King products to the grand prize—a Hyundai Tiburon.

“As a company, we had been looking for a way to give back to the community,” said Doucette.

The three companies will continue to work together next year on a similar promotion, with the goal to raise even more money, according to Doucette. “The sponsors were happy—Hyundai will be back next year,” said Doucette.
