Syndie ‘Iyanla’ Gets Fall Start

“Iyanla,” the new syndicated talk show executive produced by Barbara Walters and partner Bill Geddie, is set for a fall launch with word that it has cleared KNBC in Los Angeles for a daytime slot.

Apart from Dallas, Los Angeles was the only top 10 market that the new talk show, hosted by Iyanla Vanzant and developed by Buena Vista Prods., had not racked up. A number of top-market Buena Vista sister ABC stations, including WABC in New York, have signed up the strip.

Though Buena Vista Television has not formally committed to a production green light, BVT executive vp sales Tom Cerio said, “I think you can assume it’s going ahead now that we have more than 85% of the country cleared with the KNBC deal.” He pointed out that while a handful of ABC stations are airing the show in late-night for its first season, the vast majority of the lineup will be in daytime.

Apart from KNBC and WABC, the top 10 station lineup includes WBBM in Chicago, WPVI in Philadelphia. KGO in San Francisco, WHDH in Boston, WUSA in Washington, WXYZ in Detroit, KTRK in Houston and WGCL in Atlanta.

The one-hour talker, syndicated by Buena Vista Television, is described as a show that will be both entertaining and informative. Vanzant is a nationally known author and lecturer whose books include “One Day My Soul Just Opened Up” and “Yesterday I Cried.”
