Sun Microsystems Reviews $20 Mil. Media

CHICAGO Sun Microsystems has placed its estimated $20 million global media account into review, according to the incumbent agency.

The business is currently handled by Publicis Groupe’s Starcom, which will defend.

The client has contracted Select Resources International, Santa Monica, Calif., to handle the search. SRI said the review, for which RFIs have been issued, would emphasize global media reach and should be completed by the end of May.

The search comes just a month after the Palo Alto, Calif.-based client hired independent agency Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners, Sausalito, Calif., to handle creative duties on its account [Adweek Online, Feb. 7].

Starcom, based in Chicago, has handled the media account since May 2002. “We’re committed to retaining the business,” said a Starcom representative.

The client could not be immediately reached for comment.
