Suissa Miller Captures Coffee Bean

LOS ANGELES The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has tapped Suissa Miller as its ad agency, the client confirmed.

The shop was selected following a review that included roughly eight undisclosed agencies in the Los Angeles area, said Tami Clark, senior director of marketing and strategic alliances for the privately held coffee and tea store chain.

Billings were undisclosed. TNS Media Intelligence/CMR recorded no ad expenditures last year.

The Coffee Bean previously worked with design firms and creative boutiques on a project basis, said Clark.

“The company is growing significantly,” said Clark. “We know we have a strong brand and we’d like to take the brand and run with it.”

Suissa Miller will handle branding, advertising and in-store promotions, said Clark. Initiative Media in Los Angeles will be responsible for media, said agency chairman David Suissa.

“Their offices are located near one of our stores and their ownership are loyal customers of the Coffee Bean,” said Clark. “They’re very passionate about the product, they believe in the brand and they’re longtime customers.”

The Los Angeles agency’s first work for the client is expected to break in mid-June, Clark said.

The win comes less than a month after the shop landed the $2 million Ghirardelli Chocolate Co. account [, April 11].

Founded in 1963, Coffee Bean has more than 100 stores on the West Coast, primarily in the Los Angeles area. The chain also has roughly 100 foreign locations, mainly in Asia.
