Subway Contacts 9 in $220 Mil. Review

CHICAGO Nine agencies will visit with Subway in the first leg of the review for the creative portion of the client’s $220 million account, sources said.

Participating are incumbent Euro RSCG MVBMS Partners in New York, a Havas agency; Interpublic Group’s Deutsch and Lowe and an unidentified division of Grey Global Group, all in New York; Omnicom Group’s Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco; Publicis Groupe’s Fallon in Minneapolis; independent Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.; and two undisclosed shops, sources said.

Agency officials either could not be reached or declined comment.

Officials from Milford, Conn.-based Subway and consultancy Joanne Davis Consulting in New York did not return calls.

Client meetings with the shops are scheduled for June 9, with a cut to three or four finalists in mid-June.

Media chores with Grey Global’s MediaCom are not in play.

Subway’s ads have been tagged “Subway. Eat fresh.” They often feature Jared, a man who lost significant weight in part through a diet that includes eating Subway sandwiches.
